Unfortunately multiple light sources become computationally intensive very
quickly. Therefore unless you're running LW on a DEC Alpha or a Raptor chances
are you should avoid area or diffuse lighting like the plague!
One trick to give you the effect you want for your backlit letters would be to
use a Luminosity map on the building surface to simulate the light shining on
the wall. You may also need to use a color map to desaturate the lit region if
your letter lights are supposed to be very bright.
I think I rember reading a post from Allen Hastings saying he was working on a
way to simulate backlighting effects in LW. Maybe we'll see it in 4.0.
